IAC 2023, Baku

The 74th International Astronautical Congress returned to Azerbaijan’s capital, Baku, in 2023 exactly half a century after the city hosted it for the first time in 1973, making Baku the first and only city in the region to do so! We provided structures that enabled visitors to experience unmatched Azerbaijani hospitality and this important global event.

An out-of-this-world event space delivered turnkey

Losberger De Boer was tasked with creating an exhibition space for the more than 5,000 participants who attended the 74th International Astronautical Congress in Baku. For this prestigious global event, we delivered a custom 8150-square-metre event venue right beside one of the city’s most impressive landmarks, the Heydar Aliyev Centre.

In addition to manufacturing the frames of the two structures we provided, Losberger De Boer also installed glass and PVC wall elements, doors, roof covers, ducts for the HVAC system and sustainable flooring. All structures and materials were transported to the site in 28 trucks, ready for assembly ahead of the doors opening.

We handled all aspects of this project, from consultation and design to shipping and construction, completing and delivering the space within a tight six-month timeframe, so the congress could welcome visitors to the event, which showcased the latest advancements in space science, technology and exploration.

An event space to bring people together

To accommodate the large number of attendees and various sessions, networking opportunities and activities planned during the IAC, Losberger De Boer provided two temporary structures that were used as an exhibition hall with conference rooms, breakout areas and catering facilities. Our challenge was to create a functional and comfortable environment for congress participants that could be delivered and ready-to-use quickly. Therefore, it was essential that assembly and disassembly could be completed within the six-month timeframe. It was also critical that the event space we delivered caused minimal disruption to the surrounding area and complemented the neighboring Heydar Aliyev Centre, one of Baku’s most popular landmarks.

We love this kind of challenge and set to work creating an event space that would enable participants to take in all the stellar activities available to them. We took a customer-centric approach to the design, production and transportation of the two structures, moving them from Germany to the final installation site in Baku. We connected both structures, so attendees could seamlessly move between the two, making the visitor experience easy and efficient.
